Race Day Review | Spring Race Day

Ladies Rule The Roost at New Plymouth Raceway

While horse numbers were on the small side there was still some competitive racing at New Plymouth Raceway yesterday.

Good Vibes and Goodnight Irene provided a training double for Matamata trainers Peter and Jessica Brosnan. Both horses were expertly ridden by apprentice Jasmine Fawcett. The win of Good Vibes in the Ocean Emperor @ Weowna Stud 1800 was rather apt given the long standing connection between Jessica Brosnan and sponsor Gary Hennessy. Brosnan worked for Hennessy for two years and strapped the Opunake Cup winner Pindy for Hennessy back in 2009.  Good Vibes is likely to return to New Plymouth Raceway on Saturday 28 September for NZB Airfreight Road To The Jericho Cup over the extreme distance of 3210 metres.

Along with the above two wins, Fawcett was also successful aboard local debutant Total Sass in the Return 2 Earth Maiden 3YO. The Debbie Harris trained filly won by an ever increasing six length margin with another local Yes I’m Royal finishing second.

Another local to salute on the day was the John Wheeler trained Bubble Gum who franked a number of strong placings with a comfortable win yesterday for jockey Rosie Myers.  She is definitely a horse with a future and one to follow in upcoming assignments.

The female jockeys completed a clean sweep of the seven race card with Danielle Hirini, Chelsea Burdan and last season’s premiership winner Lisa Allpress also riding a winner each.

We look forward to seeing you on track for the very popular Xtreme Race Day on Saturday 28 September.
