Taranaki Racing announced today that it will again run the New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight 'Road To The Jericho' heat on Saturday 26th September 2020.
The winner of the 3210 metre race receives a guaranteed start to contest the AU$304,000 Jericho Cup at Warrnambool on Sunday 29th November.
For the first time New Zealand will have two guaranteed starters with the Canterbury Jockey Club to run another New Zealand heat in Christchurch on Saturday 24th October.
This race, also sponsored by New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight, will carry the same $5,000 travel credit given to each of the heat winners in New Zealand if they contest the Jericho Cup.
“New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight are thrilled to support these two qualifying races in lead-up to the Jericho Cup, and wish all the connections the best of luck as they target this unique special race” said Manager, Greg Northcott.
Canterbury Jockey Club Chief Executive, Tim Mills, advised “The CJC are delighted to be invited by Bill Gibbons (founder of the Jericho Cup) to host a qualifying race. The 3000 metre race adds yet another point of interest to the hugely exciting spring racing season at Riccarton Park”.
Last year Aigne, who won the New Plymouth heat, run 3rd in the Jericho Cup.
